TRAILS: Athletic Brewing Spearheads One of the nation’s largest trail grant programs. Athletic Brewing announced its first round of funding – $ 500,000 – to its Two for the Trails 2021 scholarship program. The Two for the Trails program helps trail-based nonprofits raise funds for projects such as trail maintenance and trailhead improvement.

Athletic’s program donates 2% of all revenue, making it one of the largest company-funded scholarship programs of all time. The scholarship program is open to organizations Apply now by May 31st.

SKI: Bluebird Backcountry is partnering with Colorado Resort for the 2021-2022 season. With this new partnership, passport holders can access both Arapahoe Basin and the first All-backcountry ski area in Colorado, Bluebird backcountry.

Holders of an Arapahoe Basin pass receive two free day tickets at Bluebird (redeemable during the week), and holders of a Bluebird pass receive two free lift tickets in the Arapahoe Basin (no blackout dates). Passes were sold on April 8th.

RUN: IRONMAN Don Muchow runs from coast to coast, from Disneyland to Disney World. A spirited Texas runner Don Muchow, chose Walt Disney’s Coast to Coast Challenge (a half marathon in Disneyland and Disney World in the same year) by running from one park to another. That’s 2,700 miles from Anaheim, California to Orlando, Florida.

Muchow started in February 2020 (but stopped several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and restarted in March 2021. He finished last week.

HIKE: 700 acres of wildfire burns through Big Bend National Park. Wildfire is burning in Big Bend National Park, Texas near the park’s southern edge and the Chisos Mountains.

The National Park Service has closed several areas, including the Chisos Basin Campground and trailheads, until further notice. The last estimated burn area was 785 acres, but authorities expect the fire to grow. Find the latest updates here.

RESORT: Alterra Mountain Company announces multi-million dollar upgrades at Ikon Pass Resorts. Squaw Valley alpine meadows California has a state-of-the-art base-to-base (B2B) gondola that connects the valley to the meadows in a 16-minute ride.

The B2B provides access to 6,000 acres of skiing and horseback riding, 360-degree views, and can move 1,400 people per hour between the resort’s bases. The project is valued at $ 60 million Groundbreaking this summer.

FKT: Joe McConaughy applies FKT by hiking the Arizona Trail. Less than a week after that Timon Fish set a bicycle record on the Arizona TrailMcConaughy set a running record at the AZT. He covered 788 miles in 13 days, 3 hours and 21 minutes. His supported data set, completed on April 5th, was officially recognized by FastestKnownTime.com.
