Patagonia’s ambassador and guide Zahan ‘Z’ Billimoria talks about ski management, risk and safety in Patagonia’s film ‘Solving for Z’.

After an accident on Mount Moran that killed two partners, Zahan Billimoria is committed to exploring the gap between what is known and unknown in the mountains and the risks that exist in that space. How much can we get from the mountains? How much can we lose

These 27-minute film explores the reality of the dangers in the hinterland. No matter how threatening that seems, it is important for us to learn how to recognize risks and how to prevent them. But we also need to recognize the element of uncertainty.

“Knowing about the hinterland – that can be dangerously helpful,” said Billimoria. It’s not a super dark film, but it’s not light-hearted either.

“With the heart of winter, the message behind this film is timely. The pandemic has created great uncertainty about the operation of ski resorts. As a result, more people than ever are sure to be entering the hinterland, ”wrote the Patagonia team. We couldn’t agree more with the timing of this film.

If Patagonia’s goal was to raise public awareness of the risk in the mountains, then they hit it right.

“Solving for Z” premiered yesterday. The film will also be broadcast live TGR TV from January 10, 2021.
