With as many collaborations as there are movies, Columbia continues its annual Star Wars apparel launch.
May the force be with you … and the good times too. For the fifth time in as many years, Columbia is launching a Star Wars collection as the famous science fiction franchise continues to grow through generations.
But this year’s drop comes with a twist – a kind of pineapple, coconut, luau twist. That’s right, unlike winter gear introductions in previous years, Columbia is releasing summer this year Outer Edge Collection. And while not filled with the variety of styles we’ve seen before, the collection offers a whole new take on collaboration.
Part of Columbia’s PFG (Performance Fishing Gear) line, the Outer Edge Collection includes three silhouettes – women’s, children’s and men’s – of a buttoned shirt with a Hawaiian print.
But instead of the typical hibiscus flowers and palm leaves, this print features TIE fighters, stormtroopers, X-wings – even the Millennium Falcon and Darth Vader himself, all of which are hiding in Endor-like foliage.
All models use Columbia’s Omni-Shade technology, a UPF-40 polyester. It also contains the brand’s proprietary Omni-Wick antimicrobial treatment that helps reduce odors. And of course a hook and loop rod holder as a fishing shirt.
Columbia outer edge collection
We wore a pre-release men’s shirt to get a feel for the shirt and mood. First off, the style is Fire, and perhaps our most popular (if not the most useful) release to date.
The shirt feels almost silky, but is well suited for summer events. For outdoor barbecues or days on the beach, the UPF-40 material works as advertised. And mesh cuffs along the chest pockets and the ventilated back area ensure that it is cool to wear.
If there’s one downside, it’s size. Our size Large feels more like an XL or small galaxy. So if you receive this as a gift please check the size.
