This father-son endeavor was initiated to secure a badge of merit. Now it’s taking off and DingOutdoors is giving away free equipment to publicize getting equipment offers on your phone!
12-year-old boy scout Braydon Resio needed his entrepreneurship badge. More importantly, he needed an idea; Something that not only met the Boy Scouts’ requirements but was fun for him and his father as well during the pandemic that swiftly devoured summer 2020.
His father, Jay, 44, came from an e-commerce, marketing, and equipment background and worked on online buying guides for Dick’s Sporting Goods. Between Jay’s experience and Braydon’s imagination, the two came up with the idea of an outdoor equipment platform that wrote offers and discounts on subscribers’ phones. The idea sounds simple: Jay and Braydon research gear they think is interesting or innovative, then buy the gear, try it out, and add it to their roster if they like.
When you find a gear deal you like, write it to your subscribers. Instead of a lengthy ordering process, all users have to answer the answer with “Yes” in order to secure the discount. By November, the Resios had worked out most of the cyber kinks and started quietly DingOutdoors. It was a success.
“We are growing steadily and comfortably [and] slowed growth a bit to align with our business, ”said Jay. Since that quiet start, the young entrepreneurs have begun to hire new team members and even start building a warehouse.
