RECCO reflectors are a common feature of ski equipment. They give rescue workers the opportunity to find people buried in avalanches. And now FORLOH, a hunting brand launched in 2020, is going to add this for the first time.

Serious skiers and snowboarders are familiar with RECCO reflectors. The 2 inch tabs embedded in clothing (and even Packs and Helmets) reflect a specific type of radar used by professional skiers or other first responders to find missing persons wearing them. These RECCO locators are common in ski resorts and can even be mounted on helicopters for quick response.

Now the US-made FORLOH brand aims to offer hunters a similar type of security. FORLOH launched this week and will add RECCO reflectors to all of its products AllClima rain and SoftShell jackets.

Winter sports brands have been using this fast-reacting rescue technology for years. But FORLOH is the first hunting brand to introduce it. All of this naturally begs the question: why?

RECCO reflectors for hunters?

Avalanche reflectors in hunting clothing seem a bit pointless at first glance. However, when you consider that hunting places people at increased risk of injury or loss in remote wilderness areas, it is starting to make sense.

FORLOH said the integration of it Search technology RECCO is partnering with search and rescue teams in the US to expand the use of its RECCO SAR helicopter detector. With these detectors mounted on the helicopter, crews can search quickly People on the ground over wide areas. By developing this technology in the hunting industry, FORLOH aims to increase the safety margin for consumers.

“Due to the nature of the hunt, the hunter tries to get to its prey undetected, which means that hunters are extremely difficult to find in an emergency,” said Andy Techmanski, founder and CEO of FORLOH.

“Given RECCO’s drive to expand this technology with search and rescue teams, we were amazed to learn that it has not yet been incorporated into hunting apparel. And we took this opportunity. Preparation is one of the basic requirements for planning a hunt. The integration of RECCO reflectors into our equipment gives our customers and their families an additional safety margin and security at home. “
