Kate Leeming travels through Namibia’s Skeleton Coast by bike

In 2010, Kate Leeming made history by becoming the first person to cycle from the westernmost point of Africa to the easternmost point. More recently, she decided to be the first person to cycle Namibia’s desert coast known as the Skeleton Coast. A new documentary series called Diamonds in the Sand captured the month-long journey of surviving heat, headwinds, and wildlife such as hyenas, elephants, and lions. As Leeming covered 1,000 miles on her fat bike, she rode past aging shipwrecks and sun-bleached animal bones, enjoying breathtaking views of the arid landscape. In its four sections, the series documents their mental and physical struggles as well as the history and ecology of this region.
