Latria Graham’s love letter to black adventurers

In the past few years, South Carolina-based writer Latria Graham has published two essays in Outside Magazine on the challenges blacks face outdoors. Both stories received a great deal of attention on the matter and also spurred a number of readers to write to her, ask questions, and share their own personal experiences. For Graham, one category of letters was a heavy burden: those from colored people asking her for advice on where to be safe and welcome outside. She wasn’t sure how to react and said nothing for a long time. But after many months of reckoning with the National Racial Justice Movement in America, she was ready to give her answer.
