Unlike several previous videos, this phone footage from Romania shows a bear descending a snow-covered hill in search of a skier.
“God forbid, don’t look back!” The boneless warnings came from skiers aboard a chairlift in the Romanian ski resort of Predeal, who watched in horror as a lone skier tried desperately to avoid a bear that was only a few meters behind him The Iasi newspaper (ZDI).
And the audience managed to catch most of the encounter on video.
“Go faster, go faster! Come on, the bear is chasing you! Go faster! “Spectators shouted according to the ZDI. The skier, who at some point dropped his backpack to temporarily distract the bear, made it safely without being injured.
A local official told Romania Digi24 News that the young man did the right thing by removing his backpack as it took a little more time than the bear stopped to examine him.
Following the incident, police said they had received three calls from locals warning of a bear sighting, Digi24 reported. And when the authorities investigated the area with ATV, the bear fled into the forest. Digi24 said if found, officials would try to relocate the bear, a measure they previously used.
