Osprey is proud to announce that record-breaking climber and Osprey ambassador, Nimsdai Purja MBE, is trying the impossible again. This winter, the superhuman mountaineer will climb the K2, an achievement that so many consider not only impossible but also one of the greatest and most difficult mountaineering challenges of all time – still undefeated.

Last year Osprey supported Nimsdai’s Project Possible and summed up the 14 highest mountains in the world in 6 months and 6 days. The previous record was barely 8 years old, which made Nimsdai a real world record breaker. Now he is facing his toughest challenge so far: K2 in winter.

The impressive 8,611 m long K2 is still the only 8,000 m high summit that was not climbed during the winter season.

K2 is notorious in the climbing community and is incredibly difficult to climb even in cheap summers. In winter, K2 is a really dangerous place, with winds reaching hurricane strength, air temperatures well below -65 degrees and extremely low air pressure, which means even less oxygen. The smallest mistake can have catastrophic consequences.

For his trip to Pakistan from his home in the UK, Nimsdai will carry his entire kit with the Osprey Transporter Pack range. These expedition style packs are made from extremely durable and waterproof materials.

On the climb itself, Nimsdai will be using and testing Osprey’s brand new Talon Pro, among other things. The state-of-the-art Talon Pro was developed for use in extreme outdoor environments and is the culmination of relentless innovation.

The ultra-molecular polyethylene PFC-free fabric offers extreme durability, while an injection molded back panel ensures hyperstability and comfort.

The Talon Pro is part of Osprey’s innovative Spring 2021 collection – available from January ’21.

“I’m excited and grateful to be able to work with Osprey again on my upcoming K2 winter project. The entire Osprey Europe team has given me incredible support during my trip so far and I will be proud to represent them on my next big mountaineering expedition. Making the impossible possible together. “Announced Nimsdai Purja, Osprey Ambassador.

Gary Burnand, Marketing Director at Osprey Europe added:

“Last year we saw the climbing history of Nimsdai being rewritten. Now we are proud again to support the superhuman mountaineer in his toughest challenge to date: K2 Winter.

This climb is one of the greatest challenges in mountaineering and only Nimsdai can master the impossible again with his sheer determination, mental and physical strength.

At Osprey, we wish him the best of luck in the climb and we are excited to see how he tackles this incredible challenge. “
