Increased ground clearance, roof racks, all-wheel drive on-demand, and revenue for the National Environmental Education Foundation make the Toyota Sienna one of the more adventurous minivans on the market.

Let’s face it: if you take some equipment with you, cover long miles and possibly sleep in your car, A minivan is one of the best values for overland or camp adventures. The problem is, minivans aren’t really known for their off-road capabilities.

Enter the 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Special Edition. To tackle unpaved roads, Toyota improved ground clearance and gave the Sienna Woodland electronic all-wheel drive on-demand.

It also gets an EPA estimated speed of 35 mpg (combined highway and city), has a tow bar and towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, comes with roof rails and cross bars, and has a 1,500 W capable electrical outlet.

And to really sweeten the deal for adventurers, Toyota is donating a portion of the proceeds to charity. For every Woodland Special Edition sold, the automaker gives the National Environmental Education Foundation $ 250. Toyota guarantees a minimum donation of $ 250,000.

Here are the details.

Toyota Sienna Woodland Special Edition: Off-Road Minivan

The banner upgrade in the Woodland Special Edition is the hybrid powertrain with all-wheel drive. This eliminates what Toyota calls a “heavy AWD transfer case and space-consuming drive shaft”. Instead, a separate independent electric motor is used to drive the rear wheels.

This hybrid AWD system transfers up to 80% of the drive force to the rear wheels to prevent the front wheels from slipping. And the brand claims it also reduces understeer and increases agility in corners.

While Toyota made this Sienna for adventure, it’s still a minivan. Hence, you can expect all kinds of safety features including road sign detection, cyclist and pedestrian detection, a pre-collision system, and more.

A 1,200 W JBL system with 12 speakers and navigation surrounds three rows of black sports seats. Captain’s chairs in the second row, seats in the third row “Split & Stow” for various cargo needs and kick-activated sliding doors round off the comfort and convenience features.

The Toyota Sienna Woodland Special Edition is available in cement and midnight black and will go on sale this fall.
