One of the highest ski resorts in North America has a unique approach to reaching unvaccinated skiers.

Colorado skiers who want a COVID vaccine but don’t have the time yet For the quick poke, there is one more easy way to get the job done. On Sunday May 16, the Arapahoe Basin is offering one COVID vaccination clinic with ski-in and ski-out right on the beach.

For those who have not yet been there, “The Beach” is a parking lot on the slope where skiers like to grill, open the tailgate and enjoy the spring sun. Most spring weekends, the Ground Zero area is for a damn good party. And next weekend there will also be a small purpose.

Summit County’s Health Department will open a store there from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm and offer 200 free Johnson & Johnson vaccines, subject to availability. Anyone who needs the vaccine can get one regardless of where they live.

Better still, everyone who got vaccinated that day at The Beach will receive a free Bloody Mary Bacon, draft beer, or soda from 6th Alley Bar and Grill.

This unique impact of vaccination is due to the fact that health officials have been struggling to reach skeptical or otherwise reluctant unvaccinated populations. And if a ski-in vaccine and free booze aren’t enough encouragement to bring Summit County’s vaccination rate over 70% (it already topped 62% last week), we don’t know what it is.
