Today SRAM introduces a massive new eTap AXS road transmission with an incredible range and a ratio of less than 1: 1. Big paved and gravel climbs hit their match.

SRAM’s eTap AXS was a complete success. The brand’s premier RED group has gracefully brought the American-born and raised company to the fore of the spear for high-quality road and gravel bike components.

And with the new upgrades, SRAM Force eTap AXS offers the same wireless, programmable shifting at a lower price. Everything you need to know is here.

SRAM RED eTap AXS: 36T Max rear derailleur

The current RED eTap AXS rear derailleur erases a 33-tooth cartridge. The new addition announced today will release a whopping 36-tooth cassette made possible by a change in length in the derailleur housing near the B-bolt.

This enormous chain management capacity expands the range of double and single chainrings.

With the added capacity of this new front derailleur and its compatibility with 46/33 chainrings and a 10-36T cassette, a gear range of 502% with a low gear ratio of 0.92 under 1: 1 is now a reality. A 48 / 53T chainring offers a gear range of 494% and a low gear ratio of 0.97.

These new shift range potentials offer additional options for pedal force and cadence to improve both road and gravel performance and driving fun.

SRAM RED eTap AXS: More functions

The new RED eTap AXS 36T Max rear derailleur retains the incredible Orbit chain management system. I am constantly amazed at the ability of the silicone fluid cushioned system to control the chain slack on my gravel bike when the unpaved roads in my area are bombed.

Even square potholes cannot hit my chainstay with a chain. So I don’t even care about a protector anymore. The large X-SYNC pulleys and ceramic bearings of the current RED derailleur as well as the eTap battery are transferred.

Compatibility of the SRAM ecosystem

The new RED eTap AXS 36T Max rear derailleur is only compatible with others SRAM AXS Components. It will not work with SRAM eTap 11-speed parts. However, it is compatible with all AXS front derailleurs, drop bar switches, BlipBoxes and controllers.

The new front derailleur retains all the functions of the SRAM AXS app, including personalizing the shift modes and monitoring the performance and readiness of the AXS system. The app also ensures that all component firmware is kept up to date.

SRAM Force AXS XG-1270 10-36T cassette

The only 10-36T cartridge currently available is a Force version, the AXS AG-1270. Today SRAM announced that it has updated these cartridges with a new nickel-chrome finish that will be available sometime this month.
