In-person summer camps have been canceled this summer. Luckily, The North Face is launching its own camp. And it’s free.
The North Face just announced it will launch its own virtual summer camp, led by athletes like Hilaree Nelson and Jimmy Chin later this July. Did we mention it’s free? And parents, you can attend!
“In response to summer camps across the country being shuttered, The North Face is bringing together its diverse group of global athletes to offer 2 free weeks of online and offline programming,” read the press release. “The camp will safely bring the spirit of the outdoors to kids wherever they are.”
The camp will consist of 2 weeks of online instructional programming for various interests, including survival skills, camping, adventure photography, mapmaking, and more. The camps run through the end of July.
In addition to filmmaker Jimmy Chin and climber Ashima Shiraishi, more athletes from The North Face’s global team will also teach at the camp. Each virtual camp session will have a TNF athlete leader and other “counselors” to help guide the programming.
You can register for The North Face Summer Base Camp here.
The North Face Summer Base Camp
The virtual camp is meant to introduce kids and parents everywhere to “the wonders of exploration” and offer a diverse range of topics to keep kids active and busy. The intended age range is 10-14, but kids younger and older will definitely be able to participate in certain sessions.
The schedule for The North Face Summer Base Camp looks like this:
- 7/20: Adventure Photography with Jimmy Chin
- 7/22: Geometric Designs with Nina Williams
- 7/24: Snacks to Pack with Ashima Shiraishi
- 7/27: Mapmaking with Coree Woltering
- 7/29: Survival Skills with Manoah Ainuu
- 7/31: Backyard Base Camp with Hilaree Nelson
Of course, attending anything “online” isn’t nearly as fun as it is in person. So The North Face made sure to incorporate programming for offline, outdoor adventures.
Campers can do all the outdoor adventures in their own backyard or at their local green space. Once registered, kids and parents can come back and rewatch at a later date, all the way through the end of summer.
As fun as this camp experience sounds, we can’t wait until families everywhere can be back outside together. When that happens, these campers will surely be ready.
