I need an accurate and sensitive CO detector to see if my gas furnace leaks CO into the house. After posting a question on whether it is accurate enough for my purposes. An engineer from the company contacted me on the same day and explained to me in detail. After that, I bought one and put it to test. The outdoor exhaust pipe reading was 11 ppm, comparable to the one recorded by an HVAC company a year before. The indoor reading was 0, indicating no CO leakage. The device is easy to use. It is sensitive and appears to be accurate. I am very please with it. The company is very responsive and helpful. I will be able to use it this coming winter to test for CO, when in doubt. Home CO alarms are meant for spikes only, in my opinion. Small leaks are better tested with this device. After 6 2-minute readings, the battery is only down by 3%. Thank you, Forensics.

Works great!

I bought this to detect how much CO my car was producing and if it was leaking into the cabin. I verified it worked by placing it at the tip of my exhaust while the car was running. It quickly triggered the alarms and went over 100+ ppm (I'm running catless exhaust). In the cabin, it read 0. I also tested it on human gasses... and I am quite surprised at how much we exhaust! LOL

Works Well

I was worried about the venting of our gas water heater and the usual CO alarms don't actually read at low levels. This unit was reading "0" so I wasn't sure it was working. We own 11 old cars ranging from 1956 to 1968. Out the garage, after starting a car and having the meter near the exhaust, it started reading in single then double digits and then alarmed at the low level I set. Moving away from the car, the level settled down to 20 ppm or so. So I trust the device. Not too hung up about calibration in the future. Just want to know if the levels go up without an alarm. This is meant to wear for personal protection so in that case it would be calibrated. I might get the pump to make the readings more instantaneous. Otherwise, unless the air you want to sample is blowing, you have to wait until the environment finds its way into the sensor. Instructions might be confusing for some but they're fine IMHO.

What a great company!

The design and construction of this unit seems on par with many of the commercial ones that I've used at my work, but the price is much lower.

We wanted it for spot checks of CO when various equipment ran, such as our Natural-Gas-fired Backup generator and our gas logs and water heater.

Very pleased with all facets of Forensics Detectors. Even their Tech Support line is wonderfully responsive.

Professional but user friendly

I love this product since it is ready to use right out of the box. Important to me is the fact that it will "alarm" in four ways There is a sound alarm, blinking red lights, a visual meter and the unit itself will vibrate. Since my hearing is not what it used to be and because I will be using this device in a loud environment, those additional alarms can be lifesaving.

By the way, I wrote Forensics with a question on a weekend and had a reply the same day. That is good service in my book.

I have two buildings on my property. One has a gas furnace but all other appliances are electric. The other has gas wall heaters and a gas range. The meter registers 3 ppm with the wall heater in use and 6 ppm with the heater and the gas range in use in the 2nd building. In the building with only the gas furnace it registers 0 ppm. These readings are consistent and tells me the meter is working and that the CO is less than the ASHRAE limit in the 2nd and that my heat exchanger is tight in the gas furnace in building 1. Meter gives me great peace of mind.

Easy to use, comes calibrated

This device is ready to use out of the box and easy to figure out. I bought this device after our carbon monoxide detectors went off and we had no idea where the gas could have been coming from or if it was a false alarm. I tested this device while starting a fire in our wood stove. When a little bit of smoke came out, it did show a reading. Also, the device comes with a paper showing it was tested/calibrated at a factory in California. So far, I am happy with it and have confidence it works.

Good value, excellent performance

I bought this to check carbon monoxide levels around an unvented gas log set. It works perfectly and appears to be very accurate. Response time is very quick. I also used it out by a campfire as a comparison. It would quickly measure CO levels when the wind changed direction and return to zero almost immediately. Product exceeded my expectations.

Glad I spent a little extra money as it is very effective. We have used during furnace issues and has captured small amounts of CO in the house even from our attached garage when my husband has been working on an engine when the CO alarm did not recognize the low amount.
