This skier’s journey to the mountain? Your 30 12 months previous van.

For the skier Sophia Rouches, vanlife looks a little different. Rather than looking for sunny, warm areas, the Bellingham, Washington resident spends winter nights in the Mount Baker parking lot, which has an average of 641 inches of snow a year. Your 1990 RV, nicknamed “The Falcon”, has a top speed of 55 mph and is not exactly built for snow-covered mountain roads. Once Rouches makes it onto the twisty highway, it usually stays for a while – or at least until the storm cycle fades. Between long days of skiing in Baker’s Rowdy Terrain, Rouches stays warm by lighting a tiny wood-burning stove and taking friends over for pancakes.
