I’ve been raving about the Vango Blissful air mattress for months and after my last camping trip I can finally bring you my verdict. Read on to find out what I’m thinking.
What is it?
Vango Blissful Double Air mattress £ 105- £ 135
- Carrying bag and patch included
- Groundsheet friendly
- Mains operated (requires an EHU at the campsite)
- Automatic switch-off – as soon as the air mattress has reached its desired firmness, the pump automatically stops inflating and saves time during set-up
- The Constant Comfort ™ pump automatically monitors the pressure and automatically inflates quietly again
- Extra soft, comfortable, flocked surface
- Inflates in 3 minutes
Thanks to the lockdown, it took me a while to check this out and I’m so excited to finally be able to share my thoughts on this with you.
I threw away inflatable mattresses a few years ago for the simple reason that I was tired of them deflating at night. Since I’ve broken my back, I need a lot of support and I need it consistently so that normal air mattresses just don’t cut it.
When I first heard about Vango Blissful, it promised to fix the problem. The bed has a Constant Comfort pump that remains connected. The device monitors the air pressure and can be automatically re-inflated if necessary. Genuis!
But how does it work in practice? First, it has a built-in pump. It is not rechargeable and can only be used with the power plug connected. That means you have to camp with an EHU if you want to use this bed.
Vango Blissful air mattress inflation control
Considering it is a double bed and it is also double height, it inflates very quickly, in around 3 minutes, and I like the comfort dial which offers 3 different firmness options.
When I was using the air mattress at home, I really noticed the sound of the monitoring unit, but when I was camping I couldn’t hear the sound of the pump at all. Plugged in all night, the bed feels just as firm every morning when I wake up as it did the night before when I went to bed.
The bed is a good size for two people – I’m used to having a king size bed at home and hate small beds, but as for air mattresses, this is just big enough for the two of us.
- The bed inflates very quickly
- It stays fully inflated all night
- The double height makes it easier for people with mobility problems to get in and out
- Strength regulators offer 3 different strength settings
- Large and sturdy carrying bag included
- The quiet charging system works great
- Can only be used with AC power
- It’s pretty big to store and transport
Overall rating (4/5)
I gave the Vango Blissful a 4/5 star as it is losing out due to the fact that it is mains powered and not all of us normally camp on an electricity hookup. That said, for those camping with an EHU this is a high quality bed and it works very well.
You’ll sleep comfortably on this bed and wake up in the morning to find that the bed is still fully inflated and just as comfortable.
It’s more expensive than other air mattresses, but the quiet inflation feature makes this a really good buy.
In the future I would love to see a rechargeable version of this bed. Technically, I’m not sure it’s possible, but if a rechargeable battery could be added that has a version that can be used by all campers without an EHU, that would be pretty cool!
