The first mountain bike tire of its kind uses NFC chip technology to communicate with the rider’s phone.

The renowned bicycle tube manufacturer Tubolito announced today the “world’s first intelligent tube”. With an almost weightless NFC (Near Field Communication) chip, the MTB P-SENS can digitally read the pressure in the tube and transfer this data to an app on the user’s phone.

The tube has the same construction and thickness as the brand’s Tubo MTB with a comparable weight (the chip adds about 10g to the Tubo MTB). According to Tubolito, a driver must place their phone within 3 cm of the chip to read the pressure.

While this means you can’t get impromptu notifications about tire pressure, the brand states that you can simply tap your phone on the tire with the valve in the 12 o’clock position (while stopped). Here is a video of the P-SENS in action:

Of course, the smartest tube in the world also has a unique price. The MTB P-SENS comes in 27.5- and 29-inch sizes, and both cost $ 50 per pop.
